Theresa Stevenson

Theresa Stevenson is a Cree First Nation artist based in Saskatchewan who has studied an array of creative fields, which include design, visual arts and theatre. Her recent new media exhibition “The Awakening" showcased her particular talent to strike unique emotional chords based on prevailing issues. Whether she’s painting monochromatic silhouettes or photographing events, her work makes use of bold colours brimming with hope and strength.

You know what I'm sick of? Designers and textile artists appropriating my peoples designs, calling it "tribal," and exploiting it for profit. That's why we need more opportunities, such as this one, for Indigenous designers and artists to represent their own authentic works.
